MDO is a fully registered non – profit and public benefit organisation that was established in 2010 and is based in East London, Eastern Cape. Our mission is to empower underserved and disadvantaged communities to realize their fundamental human rights in a democratic South Africa. We work in partnership with others to facilitate and involve communities in mobilizing resources and designing programmes that address local health, education and social development needs; our work is grounded in a commitment to self-advocacy and social justice.

Working in partnership with community leadership, Masibumbane strategically addresses entrenched obstacles to development and progress through the following principles;
- Creating a pipeline of locally generated solutions;
- Engaging a broad range of stakeholders that includes representatives from community, academia, industry and government
- Adopting a results-based approach that monitors progress, corrects weaknesses, and documents results
